Job Overview:
Under the guidance of the Inventory and Store Manager, the Store Sales Assistant plays a vital role in the effective functioning of the museum shop. This position encompasses a variety of responsibilities such as welcoming and assisting patrons, processing sales transactions, ensuring the store is well-presented, and aiding in inventory management and merchandise preparation.
The ideal candidate is expected to deliver outstanding customer service consistently and enhance sales through engaging and positive interactions with visitors.
Key Responsibilities:
- Welcome and assist customers in the store, maintaining a high standard of customer service.
- Address visitor inquiries and provide information about the store and museum exhibitions, policies, and programs.
- Process sales transactions using a computerized cash register, manage customer returns, handle complaints, and perform cash drawer reconciliations.
- Collaborate with the Visual Merchandiser and Sales Floor Supervisor to uphold store presentation, displays, and cleanliness.
- Participate in regular inventory counts and provide recommendations for stock replenishment.
- Communicate inventory needs and suggestions to the Sales Floor Supervisor and Inventory and Store Manager.
- Assist in training and orienting museum store volunteers as required.
- Maintain a thorough understanding of merchandise, including product locations and relevant background information.
- Support the Museum Store Stockroom Coordinator with merchandise receiving, including verifying counts and pricing.
Additional Duties:
Assist with various museum store tasks, including back-office and stockroom responsibilities as needed. Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Applicants should possess a minimum of one year of experience in retail sales, cashiering, and customer service. Familiarity with computerized cash registers is essential, and experience with RetailPro8 is advantageous.
Successful candidates will demonstrate strong numerical aptitude, cash handling skills, and excellent communication abilities. Attributes such as honesty, flexibility, reliability, and attention to detail are crucial.
Applicants must be capable of thriving in a fast-paced retail environment and exhibit the ability to interact courteously and efficiently with museum staff, volunteers, and the public. Problem-solving skills and sound judgment are necessary.
Availability to work evenings and weekends is required, along with the physical ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 50 pounds. A basic understanding of Asian art and culture is preferred.
Compensation:
Competitive hourly wage with an excellent benefits package.
Working Conditions:
The role involves working on the sales floor, requiring good physical mobility, visual acuity, and manual dexterity to handle merchandise and operate the cash register. The position necessitates standing for long durations, and adherence to a dress code is mandatory.
