Job Title: JBER Early Childhood Educator

FLSA Status: Full Time-Hourly

Reports to: Education Director

Hourly Pay: $25.40 DOE

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Early Childhood Educator is tasked with fostering a unified teaching and mentoring team, orchestrating the educational curriculum, and overseeing the daily operational functions of learning initiatives for both early learners and school-aged children. A comprehensive understanding of children's cognitive, social, emotional, and physical development is essential to create a secure and engaging classroom atmosphere where children are actively involved and motivated to thrive. The Early Childhood Educator must possess strong communication skills to effectively interact with children and adults, guide teaching assistants and mentors, and address parental inquiries.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

+ Design and execute educational curricula by crafting classroom activities that align with developmentally suitable practices and early learning benchmarks.

+ Recruit, cultivate, and instruct a team of volunteers to facilitate activities for infants, toddlers, and preschoolers, emphasizing parent-child interaction and social development.

+ Lead by example; promote the success of the teaching team through modeling and coaching.

+ Organize individual and group activities that are age-appropriate to actively engage children and support their social, cognitive, and emotional development. Maintain regular communication with parents through informal discussions, progress reports, and parent-teacher meetings. Ensure compliance with all organizational, educational, and regulatory policies.

+ Maintain a healthy classroom environment by upholding hygiene and cleanliness standards, ensuring the safety and security of children.

+ Supervise teacher assistants, after-school mentors, and volunteers to guarantee adherence to planned activities and safety protocols.

+ Keep accurate records, forms, and files.

+ Address conflicts as necessary to ensure a positive experience for all involved.

+ Communicate with current and prospective parents of preschool and school-aged children through direct conversations, newsletters, calendars, and parent handbooks; participate in community outreach efforts to foster positive community relationships, developing outreach materials such as calendars, bulletin boards, newsletters, and articles.

+ Build relationships with key stakeholders to advocate for the ASYMCA's educational programs through collaboration with school administration, educators, guidance counselors, and Parent/Teacher Organizations.

+ Ensure educational programs align with and support the YMCA competencies: Mission Advancement, Collaboration, Operational Effectiveness, and Personal Growth.

+ Provide training for staff on effective teaching and learning practices and recommend further training opportunities.

+ Continuously assess classroom and learning environments for optimal arrangements of age-appropriate learning centers.

+ Monitor and suggest improvements to maintain playgrounds and classrooms to the highest standards.

+ Keep records of attendance and topics covered.

REQUIREMENTS:

+ Certification or degree in early childhood or elementary education.

+ Familiarity with Alaska Early Childhood Standards.

+ First Aid/CPR Certification.

+ Experience in planning and implementing educational curricula.

+ Must possess a clean criminal background check clearance from the Armed Services YMCA and be approved for military installation access.

+ In-person position with full-time year-round or full-time school year schedules available.
