Overview

MasTec Industrial is a leading provider of construction services for industrial facilities, building products manufacturers, power generation facilities, and infrastructure projects. Our team of experts offers comprehensive project development, pre-construction planning, and project management services to ensure successful project delivery.

The Field Engineer II plays a critical role in overseeing project controls and management. This position involves responsibility for specific project areas, including direct support to Craft Superintendents, quantity collection, scheduling, contract administration, project planning and scheduling, procurement, and project reporting.

This individual will be the primary company representative on site, responsible for interfacing with clients, engineering/design teams, subcontractors, distributors, vendors, and project management. They will also lead the budgeting process, manage cost forecasting, and establish cash flow forecasts to ensure positive cash flow.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Represent the company professionally in all client interactions
  • Provide weekly, monthly, and schedule reports to clients as required
  • Understand and follow corporate safety plans and site-specific safety plans
  • Perform quantity calculations by taking measurements and determining percentage of completed/installed materials and work
  • Develop and review work plans and work packages
  • Ensure site quality plans are communicated and inspections and quality documentation are completed on time
  • Manage labor timesheets and distribute weekly average labor rates to front-line supervision
  • Train craft and staff employees on Job Safety Analysis (JSAs)
  • Participate in or lead jobsite safety reviews, toolbox meetings, mass safety meetings, and safety training
  • Order and schedule material deliveries, develop procurement status reports, and plan, schedule, and coordinate work groups on the jobsite
  • Perform material takeoffs from drawings, specifications, and contract documents
  • Assist engineers in gathering and preparing data for submittal or transmittal to customers, vendors, subcontractors, governmental agencies, and internal use
  • Prepare field-issued purchase orders and subcontracts, prepare material buyout takeoffs from issued construction drawings, and direct home office-performed procurement and subcontract administration functions
  • Provide field support and supervise subcontractor operations
  • Manage project recordkeeping and correspondence functions, including daily reports, photographs, requests for information (RFIs), submittals, transmittals, memorandums, and other contract-required correspondence
  • Create and monitor project controls such as productivity tracking, including average labor rate, indirect scheduling, equipment schedule and log, risk, and opportunity log
  • Create and maintain master project schedules
  • Generate change orders and as-built data for review by the Project Manager
  • Drive the planning process through the master schedule, 6-week, 3-week, 1-week, and manpower curves
  • Administer accounting/job costs/work-in-progress (WIP) updates, learn, and assist the Project Manager with these activities
  • Lead the budgeting process of taking the estimate and converting it to standard phase codes
  • Alert the Project Manager and Home Office of trends regarding labor, material, subcontractor, and equipment costs
  • Accurately manage the cost forecasting process for the entire project (labor, materials, subcontractors, equipment)
  • Establish the cash flow forecast and curve to ensure positive cash flow for the project
  • Act as the primary company representative in the absence of or as directed by the Project Manager or Project Engineer
  • Know the provisions, terms, and scope of the prime contract
  • Develop and prepare a Schedule of Values and all Invoices to customers

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, construction management, or related fields
  • Three to five years' experience as a Field Engineer or similar role

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:

  • Knowledgeable of MIC Health and Safety programs and project-specific regulations
  • Ability to read, analyze, and identify discrepancies on engineering plans, specifications, and contract documents
  • Ability to freely access all points of a construction site in various climates and environments
  • Highly motivated, with a demonstrated passion for excellence and taking initiative
  • Strong work ethic, willing to do what it takes to get the job done right the first time
  • Demonstrated commitment to ethics and integrity
