Position: Attendant - Charter Oak Communities

Position Summary:

This role is essential in providing compassionate care to a community of residents who require assistance with daily living activities. The Attendant will oversee medication management under the supervision of nursing staff and ensure the facility remains orderly during off-duty hours of administrative personnel. Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist residents with daily living activities, ensuring respect and dignity in all interactions.
  • Maintain and update the daily logbook, documenting observations regarding residents' conditions for the benefit of all shifts.
  • Ensure the cleanliness of resident beds and change linens as necessary.
  • Provide refreshments, such as fresh water, to residents during all shifts.
  • Support residents with personal hygiene tasks, including bathing, and communicate any refusals to the nursing staff.
  • Be knowledgeable of emergency procedures and fire safety regulations.
  • Collaborate with nursing staff to ensure prescribed treatments are administered and monitor vital signs as required.
  • Assist residents during meal times, ensuring everyone is present and providing help as needed.
  • Support new residents with settling in, including unpacking and orientation within the facility.
  • Notify laundry services of incoming clothing to ensure proper labeling.

Qualifications:

  • Understanding of geriatric care, mental health issues, and the aging process.
  • Ability to maintain positive relationships with residents, families, and staff.
  • Strong communication skills, with proficiency in English to effectively interact with residents.
  • Ability to read and comprehend medical instructions.
  • Experience working with elderly individuals requiring assistance with daily activities.
  • Empathy and patience in providing care to those in need.

Education and Experience:

A high school diploma is required, along with at least one year of experience in elderly care or working with individuals with mental or physical challenges. Certification as a Nursing Assistant is preferred. Candidates must complete medication distribution certification within 60 days of hire and have basic computer skills.
