POSITION SUMMARY:
The Mechanical Maintenance Technician is accountable for ensuring the safe and effective preventative maintenance and repair of the fluid bed dryer, granulation/milling systems, and shipping systems within the facility. This role also involves supporting and potentially leading the preventative maintenance, lubrication, and repair of mobile equipment utilized in the quarry and plant.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Maintain high standards of cleanliness in the workshop area.
- Conduct visual inspections of all operational equipment in the plant and quarry.
- Perform all preventative maintenance tasks related to process equipment, including greasing, oiling, and filter maintenance.
- Troubleshoot mechanical and electrical issues in both process and mobile equipment.
- Operate service vehicles equipped with cranes for component replacement on malfunctioning equipment.
- Utilize hand and air-powered tools for mechanical tasks.
- Complete workplace examinations and pre-shift inspections, documenting any safety or equipment concerns.
- Generate necessary documentation as per quality system requirements.
- Communicate any defects to management promptly.
- Participate in scheduled safety meetings and enforce all relevant safety protocols.
- Promote a safe and clean working environment among colleagues.
- Engage in the Behavior-Based Safety program.
- Provide backup support for any qualified position as directed by the supervisor.
- Understand and comply with Safe Quality Food certification requirements.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
REQUIRED ATTRIBUTES:
- Strong problem-solving skills with a logical approach to operational challenges.
- Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Working knowledge of mobile equipment mechanics.
- Flexibility to work various shifts, including overtime and weekends as necessary.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks with urgency to meet operational needs.
- Capability to work well in a team environment and follow instructions from management and peers.
- Self-motivated with the ability to work independently.
- Basic reading and math skills are essential.
- Strong attendance and reliability record.
- Safety-oriented mindset with the ability to collaborate effectively.
- Physical capability to perform essential job functions.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
The role requires physical ability to perform assigned tasks, including accessing all areas of the site, which may involve heights, confined spaces, and navigating various terrains. The working environment may expose the employee to extreme temperatures, noise, vibration, oils, and airborne particles.
Employees must be able to lift over 50 pounds as required.
EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION:
- Three to five years of experience in a fast-paced manufacturing environment is required.
- A High School Diploma or GED equivalent is mandatory.
- Authorization to work in the U.S. is a prerequisite for employment.
