Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Researcher to join our team at Argonne National Laboratory. The successful candidate will work on advanced computational fluid dynamics (CFD) modeling of internal combustion engines fueled by low-carbon fuels, such as hydrogen and ammonia.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform high-fidelity CFD simulations of complex physical processes in internal combustion engines, including fuel injection, combustion, and heat transfer.
  • Develop and implement CFD sub-models necessary to enable predictive internal combustion engine simulations, specifically for low-carbon fuels.
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of engine modelers and computational scientists to run simulations at-scale using high-performance computing resources.
  • Work to consistently meet priorities and deadlines set by the research sponsor.
  • Present and publish research results in peer-reviewed papers and/or journal articles.
Requirements
  • Ph.D. in mechanical/aerospace/energy engineering, applied mathematics, chemical engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Experience with modeling three-dimensional multiphase turbulent reacting flow applications using CFD codes.
  • Experience with multi-dimensional CFD internal combustion engine modeling.
  • Knowledge of low-carbon fuels (H2, NH3) chemical and physical properties.
  • Knowledge and experience with high-performance computing.
  • Knowledge and experience with CFD code development.
  • Knowledge of parallel scientific computing.
  • Ability to meet project needs and tight deadlines.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with CFD modeling of H2 and/or NH3 internal combustion engines.
  • Experience with CONVERGE CFD software.
  • Experience in geometry manipulation with computer-aided design software.
