Job Overview

Reporting To: Superintendent

Position Summary: The Dirt Foreman is responsible for overseeing the construction crew, ensuring adherence to project specifications and timelines. The primary focus is on earthmoving operations.

Required Certifications: Valid Driver's License, OSHA 10/30 Certification, First Aid, and CPR Training.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct daily job safety analyses to identify and mitigate safety risks, ensuring a secure working environment for all team members.
  • Efficiently manage and supervise the crew's daily activities.
  • Direct the training, development, performance evaluation, and task assignments of crew members.
  • Possess a thorough understanding of project plans and specific responsibilities.
  • Interpret blueprints and technical specifications accurately.
  • Oversee the management of tools, materials, and supplies.
  • Ensure optimal equipment usage and maintenance.
  • Address production issues on-site promptly.
  • Accurately report crew hours and code time on daily timesheets.
  • Implement initiatives that enhance operational efficiency.

Qualifications:

  • Adhere to all safety policies and procedures, reporting unsafe practices to the Safety Representative or supervisor.
  • Engage in proactive teamwork to meet departmental and organizational objectives.
  • Exhibit leadership qualities by setting an example and sharing expertise with others.

Language Proficiency:

  • Ability to read basic two- and three-syllable words and recognize similarities and differences in words and numbers.
  • Capable of printing and articulating simple sentences.

Mathematical Competence:

  • Proficient in basic arithmetic operations, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
  • Able to calculate rates, ratios, and percentages, and interpret bar graphs.

Reasoning Skills:

  • Ability to apply common sense to follow detailed written or verbal instructions.
  • Skilled in resolving issues involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

Organizational Skills: Capable of managing multiple tasks simultaneously.

Safety Compliance: Must be knowledgeable about and adhere to the company's safety policies as outlined in the safety manual.

Education: Less than a High School Diploma.

Experience:

  • A minimum of 4 years of experience in highway and road construction.
  • 4-5 years of experience in earthmoving operations.

Physical Demands: This role requires heavy physical activity and the ability to perform strenuous tasks throughout the workday.

Manual Dexterity: Sufficient manual dexterity to handle tools and materials effectively.

Work Environment: The position involves outdoor work in varying weather conditions, including rain, sun, snow, and wind. The employee may be exposed to extreme temperatures, wet conditions, moving machinery, and loud noise levels.
