Job Summary:
UNC Hospitals Rehabilitation Services is seeking a full-time Acute Care Physical Therapist Assistant to support our Enhanced Rehabilitation program in the acute hospital setting. The selected candidate will provide skilled therapeutic interventions to a diverse patient population with varying acuity levels, collaborating directly with the interdisciplinary team to deliver exceptional patient-centered care.

The ideal candidate will serve as a stakeholder, assisting in the implementation and sustainment of unit-based care team models to optimize patient care outcomes and best practices.

Excellent time management and communication skills are required for this fast-paced environment; clinical experience in acute care is strongly preferred.

A strong work ethic and growth-oriented mindset are essential characteristics for this role.
The selected candidate will work 40 hours per week, Monday-Friday, with occasional weekend and holiday coverage.

Responsibilities:

  • Contributes to various interdisciplinary team meetings to plan for patient needs, discuss family education plans, and discharge plans.
  • Precepts PT technicians or other physical therapist assistants and evaluates the learner's competency per department guidelines.
  • Documents patient treatment and progress toward goals. Completes department records for billing and statistics.
  • Instructs physical therapy and physical therapist assistant students.
  • Provides skilled physical therapy treatments to a wide variety of patients. Designs and teaches exercise programs to meet PT goals. Fits and teaches patients to use ambulatory devices, including braces, walkers, canes, crutches, safely to navigate stairs, curbs, and unlevel ground. Teaches patients airway clearance techniques and performs chest PT procedures. Instructs patients and families in home exercises, ambulation, and use of adaptive equipment for discharge.
  • Participation - Contributes to quality of clinical services through attendance and participation in departmental meetings and in-services.
  • Quality-Contributes to quality of clinical services through maintenance of valid & reliable records of patient procedures & progress. Participates in quality improvement initiatives with the clinical specialist and other healthcare professionals. Participates in continuous quality improvement efforts in conjunction with the department director

Requirements:

  • Graduation from an accredited two-year Physical Therapist Assistant program.
  • Licensed as a Physical Therapist Assistant by the state of North Carolina.
  • BLS
