Position Overview

Role Purpose
The Internship Program Manager plays a crucial role in providing professional guidance and expertise for undergraduate internships within a public liberal arts education framework. This position is dedicated to enhancing student involvement with opportunities that bridge classroom learning and practical experience, aligning with the institution's student learning outcomes: graduates are expected to be community contributors, career-ready scholars, and innovative problem-solvers. The role reports directly to the Enrichment Coordinator.


Key Responsibilities

Internship Strategy & Enrichment Advising (30%)

  • Act as the campus's internship authority, creating more opportunities and increasing the diversity of student engagement while adhering to best practices in internships.
  • Contribute professional insights by participating in the campus Enrichment Council and engaging in discussions about experiential learning, undergraduate research, and internships.
  • Oversee the campus's internship site agreement process utilizing the Handshake platform.
  • Collaborate with local, regional, and university partners, including faculty, staff, and sponsors.

Internship Tracking and Coordination (50%)

  • Lead the collection and dissemination of data related to internship participation and the barriers students face.
  • Work in conjunction with the Alumni Relations Officer and Career Counselor to leverage opportunities through the Maroon & Gold Network.
  • Engage in career-focused courses as needed.

External Strategy and Partnerships (20%)

  • Develop and implement innovative strategies for inclusive recruitment of diverse internship sponsors.
  • Seek out new funding opportunities through private or federal sources.

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor's degree with a minimum of two years of relevant experience or a Master's degree.
  • Proven understanding and commitment to liberal arts education.
  • Exceptional organizational skills and the ability to work effectively in a collaborative environment.
  • Commitment to promoting inclusion and equity.
  • Strong communication skills and experience in data collection.

Preferred

  • Master's degree in student affairs, career services, counseling, higher education, or a related discipline.
  • Experience in supporting best practices for high-quality internships or other experiential learning in a higher education context.
  • Experience collaborating with faculty members.
