Job OverviewThis position plays a crucial role in the Archdiocese of Washington, working closely with the Judicial Vicar and other Tribunal staff members. Key responsibilities include conducting canonical processes, instructing and deciding marriage cases in the First and Second Instances, and writing judicial sentences.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct interviews of petitioners, respondents, and witnesses.
- Prepare and submit cases to the appropriate Tribunal.
- Provide canonical advice and counsel to parishes and faithful within the archdiocese.
- Pursue ongoing formation in doctrine and jurisprudence.
- Assume responsibilities in other canon law areas as directed.
Qualifications and Requirements:
- Licentiate in Canon Law (J.C.L) is mandatory.
- A minimum of three years of Tribunal experience is required, particularly in substantive and procedural penal law.
- Bilingual Spanish-speaking is preferred.
Work Environment:
- This role operates in a professional office environment, utilizing standard office equipment such as computers, phones, and photocopiers.
Physical Demands:
- The employee must be able to stand, walk, and use hands and fingers to handle equipment.
- Occasional bending and carrying light- to medium-weight items may be required.
Expected Hours of Work:
This is a full-time position requiring 40 hours of work per week.
