The Breastfeeding Peer Counselor will serve as a source of support for mothers in our Women, Infant, and Children (WIC) Department. This paraprofessional role provides breastfeeding support and education to WIC participants, promoting breastfeeding in the community.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provides basic breastfeeding education and support to assigned WIC prenatal or breastfeeding participants.
  • Documents contacts in productivity records and submits them weekly to the supervisor.
  • Completes assigned breastfeeding trainings.
  • Follows Peer Counselor contact frequency guidance.
  • Receives a caseload of WIC mothers and makes routine periodic contacts with all assigned mothers.

Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Bilingual Spanish/English is required.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Word and Outlook.
  • Certifications in breastfeeding are a plus, but not required.

Work Environment:

Corona-Queens, Hybrid, Tuesday 9:00 am- 5:00 pm, Thursday 8:00 am- 3:00 pm, Friday 9:00 am - 5:00 pm.
