Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Health Technician (Ophthalmology) to join our team at the Veterans Health Administration. As a key member of our healthcare team, you will play a vital role in supporting ophthalmologists in diagnosis, treatment, and patient care.

Responsibilities
  • Perform a range of diagnostic procedures, including pupil evaluation and refractometry.
  • Assist during clinic-based surgical procedures and educate patients and legal representatives.
  • Measure eyeglass prescriptions and record sphere, cylinder, axis, and prism in both plus and minus cylinder.
  • Perform basic refractometry and test visual acuity at distance and near with and without correction or with and without pinhole.
  • Instill eye medications and ensure proper cleaning and disinfection of equipment.
Requirements
  • Certified as a Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) with the Joint Commission on Allied Health Personnel in Ophthalmology (JCAHPO).
  • One year of experience in a healthcare field, such as nursing, medical assisting, or health technician.
  • Knowledge of general outpatient clinical policies and procedures in a healthcare environment.
  • Ability to obtain, document, and record demographic and medical information from patients.
