7:30 AM - 4:00 PM / Full Time / 40 Hours

Emory Medical Laboratory is dedicated to enhancing health and healing by delivering high-quality, cost-effective, and innovative laboratory services that improve patient outcomes. We are currently seeking a qualified Cytotechnologist II who will contribute to our mission of clinical excellence, education, and research by embodying our core values of excellence, compassion, and integrity. The responsibilities of this role include:

  • Preparing and staining cytological specimens for routine analysis; assessing examination results for accuracy and reporting findings in accordance with established protocols.
  • Possibly preparing samples for cytopathological assessment.
  • Evaluating cytological specimens for malignancies or other conditions and completing all assigned screenings daily.
  • Reviewing the quality of staining and the adequacy of specimens to ensure reliable diagnoses.
  • In complex cases, analyzing all available information to determine whether results should be released, repeated, or escalated to a pathologist.
  • Assisting the Pathologist and Radiologist during fine needle aspiration biopsy procedures and providing adequacy assessments.
  • Performing additional related tasks as necessary.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in medical technology, clinical laboratory science, or a related field in the biological, chemical, or physical sciences.
  • Other bachelor's degrees may be considered if the candidate has graduated from an accredited cytotechnology program or if their coursework in science and mathematics meets the criteria set by the certifying agency.
  • Education Exception: A bachelor's degree requirement may be waived for a Cytotechnologist who was ASCP certified prior to the bachelor's degree mandate by ASCP and holds a HEW/HHS technologist certification from Health and Human Services.
  • A minimum of two years of relevant experience, with a preference for expertise in Gynecological, Non-gynecological, and FNA cytology.
  • Certification as CT (ASCP) by the American Society for Clinical Pathology, meeting the requirements of Georgia's Department of Human Resources.
