Senior Design Engineer Job Summary

The Senior Design Engineer will play a key role in expanding and developing cost-effective design solutions for standard and custom applications within OPTO's component-driven modular store fixture system. This individual will work closely with the sales team to create unique solutions for clients, detailing and adapting designs to suit OPTO's comprehensive in-house and sourced manufacturing processes.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Produce fixture designs and drawings as required for internal and customer review.
  • Incorporate engineered, efficient, and best-practice methods in the design and detail of drawings.
  • Manage large or complex custom projects to ensure on-time completion.
  • Find, source, and develop information and details for efficient production, resulting in excellent quality for product development.
  • Create assembly and installation drawings for production and clients.
  • Interact regularly with production and manufacturing to ensure design and production flow.
  • Create Bills of Materials for all manufactured wood and metal products.
  • Maintain and update all revisions to B.O.M.s.
  • Prioritize cost savings throughout all processes, offering value-engineered solutions.
  • Be intimately involved in the assembly of prototypes.
  • Follow any other instructions and perform any other duties as requested by the manager.
Required Technical Skills:
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in a design or engineering field of study.
  • 8+ years' experience as an Engineer in a wood or metal manufacturing environment, with a preference for the store fixture industry.
  • Knowledge of multi-materials, including wood, metal, plastics, glass, etc.
  • Basic understanding of manufacturing techniques in the wood and/or metal industries, including cabinetry, wood materials and joining techniques, laminating processes, and cabinet hardware.
  • Sheet metal, metal fabrication, metal and aluminum machining, aluminum die casting, and extruding (a plus).
  • Proficiency working with 3D solid modeling, preferably Autodesk Inventor.
  • Exposure to other Autodesk software, including AutoCAD and Vault or equivalent.
  • Mentor and train less experienced engineers.
  • Assist in developing company standards and specifications for engineering designs.
  • Working understanding of ERP software.
  • Ability to express oneself professionally using both verbal and written communications.
  • Ability to problem-solve quickly and effectively.
  • Ability to produce under pressure of timelines and customer demands.
  • Ability to prioritize and work independently to work on multiple small projects simultaneously, ensuring all key dates are met while maintaining the highest level of quality.

This position will be performed in an office setting, requiring the employee to sit and stand at a desk, communicate in person and by telephone, frequently operate standard office equipment, such as telephones and computers. Some travel is required.
