Job Overview

This role is a unique blend of in-person and remote work, requiring a skilled Volunteer and Governance Specialist to support various areas of leadership, manage governance-related schedules and functions, and develop strategies to recruit and retain volunteers.

Key Responsibilities
  • Ensure association activities align with organizational bylaws, policies, mission, and vision.
  • Provide guidance and support to internal leadership and committees on governance, organizational procedures, and advocacy.
  • Collaborate with committees to revise association bylaws and policies.
  • Coordinate board meetings and related committee meetings, including notifications, agenda preparation, meeting minutes, and follow-up actions.
  • Manage the grievance process as needed.
  • Maintain accurate records of board decisions, actions, and policies.
  • Collaborate with the government affairs committee to support advocacy strategies and initiatives in construction and remodeling.
  • Foster strong relationships with members and allies to advance the association's goals.
  • Serve as a resource and point of contact for members seeking information on governance and advocacy issues.
  • Generate reports on advocacy activities for the board and senior management.
  • Maintain organized records of advocacy efforts and outcomes for future reference and evaluation.
  • Ensure all documentation is accurate, current, and readily accessible.
  • Other duties as assigned to support and provide value to our members.
  • Occasional travel may be required.
Preferred Candidate Qualifications
  • Deep knowledge of nonprofit association governance structures, bylaws, and policies.
  • Experience with volunteer management and engagement strategies.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a keen attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and relevant software for document management.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team.
  • Exceptional organizational and time management skills.
  • A commitment to upholding the highest ethical standards and maintaining confidentiality and professionalism.
  • Bachelor's degree in an associated field or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Ability to successfully work with multiple stakeholders and resolve conflicts that arise.
  • Strong communication and networking skills to convey information clearly and concisely via phone, video call, and written communication.
  • Understanding of the importance of providing exemplary customer service internally and externally.
