Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Academic Advisor to join our team at Aims Community College. The successful candidate will provide academic advising, initial career planning, and retention services to students, helping them achieve their educational goals.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide proactive and intrusive academic advising services to an assigned caseload of students.
  • Collaborate with students to build, update, and maintain academic plans, outlining a pathway to completion of their program and goals.
  • Engage with students via in-person and virtual appointments, phone calls, texting, email, and occasional drop-in advising.
  • Maintain accurate records in an electronic database.
  • Assist students with academic suspension and financial aid appeals.
  • Teach students how to use the college's systems and technology.
  • Learn and maintain knowledge of academic program requirements and college processes, procedures, and policies.
  • Facilitate student learning and development of problem-solving skills.
  • Utilize inclusive advising practices to ensure equal access to resources and opportunities for all students.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree, plus one year of professional experience in student affairs or a higher education field, or working experience in an educational setting.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Google suite, and similar software.
  • Effective decision-making and problem-solving skills.
  • High emotional intelligence, strong active listening skills, and relationship-building skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's Degree in Student Affairs/Higher Education Leadership, Career or Personal Counseling.
  • Bilingual in Spanish and English.
  • Experience with justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion work/programming/initiatives.
  • Knowledge of college student services such as advising, career coaching, financial aid, admissions, registration, and student life.
