Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct thorough inspections of elevators and related equipment to ensure compliance with local and state regulations
  • Identify potential hazards and safety issues during elevator inspections and promptly report them to the appropriate authorities
  • Maintain accurate records of all elevator inspections, repairs, and maintenance activities
  • Communicate and collaborate with building owners, contractors, and other stakeholders to ensure timely and effective resolution of any elevator-related issues
  • Stay up-to-date with relevant codes, regulations, and industry standards related to elevator safety
  • Conduct investigations and follow-up inspections to ensure compliance with corrective actions
  • Provide guidance and assistance to building owners, contractors, and other stakeholders on elevator safety and compliance matters
  • Assist in the development and implementation of elevator safety policies and procedures
  • Attend training and professional development programs to stay current on industry advancements and best practices
  • Communicate effectively with team members and supervisors to provide updates on inspection findings and recommendations
  • Ensure that all elevators have the necessary permits and licenses and assist in the process of obtaining them
  • Conduct random inspections and audits to ensure ongoing compliance with safety standards

Requirements

  • NYC DOB Inspector License
  • Must be knowledgeable in relevant NYC codes for elevators, escalators, and all types of vertical transportation devices
  • Excellent communication skills, team player, and problem-solving skills
  • Knowledge and use of computer
  • Detail-oriented
  • Ten or more years in the actual assembly, installation, repair, maintenance, inspections, or design of elevators; or as a maintenance elevator mechanic; mechanical repair experience and 5 years supervisory experience or managerial training
  • Up to date driver's license
  • Seven years of full-time satisfactory experience working at a construction trade or working as an inspector of construction, hoists, and rigging, plumbing, boilers, or elevators; at least 18 months of which must have been in a managerial or administrative capacity
  • Education towards a degree in architecture, architectural technology, construction management, engineering, engineering technology, or a related field from an accredited college or university will be credited on the basis of 30 credits for one year of experience, up to a maximum of four years of the general experience
  • New York City Residency is not required for this position
