About the Role

We are seeking a skilled Building Maintenance Technician to join our team at Pennington County, SD. As a key member of our facilities team, you will be responsible for performing routine maintenance tasks, repairs, and upkeep of our buildings and grounds.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform general repair tasks, including replacing worn parts, patching, painting, and unplugging P-traps and toilets.
  • Conduct seasonal grounds duties, including lawn maintenance, snow removal, and ice control.
  • Operate a variety of hand and power equipment, including lawn mowers, skid loaders, and tractors.
  • Maintain tools and equipment used in completion of duties.
  • Assemble, install, and move furniture, fixtures, and equipment.
  • Perform assigned routine preventive maintenance tasks.
  • Complete assigned work order requests in a timely and competent manner.
  • Participate in 24/7 on-call rotation.
  • Respond to emergency maintenance requests as required.
Requirements
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and exercise good judgment.
  • Minimum six months experience as B&G Technician I or two years experience in basic building maintenance and repairs.
  • High School Diploma or GED Certificate.
  • Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid South Dakota Driver's License.
  • Ability to understand and follow safety procedures.
  • Must pass a pre-employment criminal background check.
Working Environment

Work under general supervision, with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Work environment is informal, team-oriented, having both routine and variable tasks with variable pace and pressure. Work frequently performed in detention facilities, often within inmate cells or adjacent pipe chases. Work within a secure detention perimeter and around inmates requires strict adherence to security protocols.
