Job Overview
The Journeyman Chiller Technician will be responsible for the operations, repairs, replacement, and preventative maintenance of commercial HVAC systems, chillers, boilers, air handlers, fan coil units, controls, and other building mechanical equipment in large-scale facilities like NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL).
Responsibilities
- Performs troubleshooting, repairs, and preventive maintenance on various types of HVAC equipment and systems, including large Air Handlers, Chilled Water Systems and Cooling Towers, Cooling Rack Air Handling Systems, Hot Water and Steam Boilers, Split Systems up to 30 tons, package Units up to 20 tons, VAV Systems, Variable Speed Drives.
- Performs troubleshooting and preventive maintenance on centrifugal, scroll, and process chillers and chiller control panels, routine mechanical and electrical for chillers.
- Troubleshoots and maintains DDC Controls and Energy Management Control Systems.
- Provides technical support/service to JPL chiller plants.
- Works directly with HVAC Lead with all issues relating to the chilled water plants.
- Able to operate related measuring, diagnostic, and testing instruments.
- Responsible to log all refrigerant usage into Site Refrigerant logs.
- Responsible for the completion of all PM and record keeping assigned to his/her areas of responsibility.
- Works with the MRO group to provide vendor quotes and information for ordering material.
- Responsible performing preventive maintenance on assigned utility cart.
Requirements
We require a minimum of five years' experience as a HVAC and chiller mechanic. This candidate must have a Universal License (EPA) and EMCS/BMS experience is required (Niagara N or Siemens preferred). They must demonstrate current knowledge of maintenance practices and concepts, have knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local safety codes, and be able to read, interpret, and explain schematics and drawings.
