POSITION AVAILABLE: Behavioral Support Paraprofessional at Alabaster City Schools

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Completion of high school or equivalent (GED) with demonstrated proficiency in fundamental skills.
  • For specific institutions: Associate's Degree, 48 semester hours of coursework, or successful completion of the Alabama State Board of Education approved WORKKEYS assessment.
  • Physical capability to perform tasks such as lifting and bending.
  • Ability to foster positive interpersonal relationships.
  • Additional qualifications as determined appropriate by the Board of Education.

SUPERVISION BY: Coordinator of Exceptional Education, Principal, Assigned Educators

OBJECTIVE: Support educational staff in executing behavior intervention strategies for students with significant behavioral challenges.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Comprehend and adhere to school regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Engage in school operations as instructed.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding student and staff information.
  • Encourage positive attitudes among students.

PRIMARY DUTIES:

  • Ensure regular attendance.
  • Collaborate with the assigned educator and behavior specialist.
  • Execute and assess behavior intervention plans.
  • Provide behavioral assistance across all settings, including transportation.
  • Work with students in both group and individual settings.
  • Assist in student assessments and preparation of educational materials.
  • Document student progress.
  • Support students' physical requirements.
  • Guarantee the safety and well-being of students.
  • Participate in professional growth opportunities.
  • Work collaboratively with school personnel, families, and the community.
  • Foster positive public relations for the educational institution.
  • Maintain confidentiality of school-related matters.
  • Adhere to Board of Education policies.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as assigned by the principal.

REQUIRED COMPETENCIES:

  • Certification or willingness to obtain certification in Prevention and Management of Aggressive Behavior.
  • Ability to effectively follow directions.
  • Capable of nurturing positive relationships.
  • Physical capability to perform all necessary tasks.

EMPLOYMENT TERMS: 187-day contract with corresponding salary.

PERFORMANCE EVALUATION: Evaluation will be conducted in accordance with Board policy.

SALARY: As outlined in the current salary schedule.
