Chief Sustainability Officer

The Town of Carrboro is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Chief Sustainability Officer to lead our efforts in advancing sustainability goals and promoting environmentally responsible practices.

• Develop and implement policies, programs, and projects that advance the Town's sustainability goals, including energy, water, and climate change mitigation.
• Collaborate with staff across departments to coordinate projects and ensure alignment with sustainability goals.
• Conduct data analysis and provide technical expertise to facility managers on resource efficiency and management.
• Supervise a team of sustainability and climate action practitioners and provide oversight and leadership to advisory committees.
• Identify and pursue external funding opportunities to support sustainability initiatives.

• Master's degree in environmental science, sustainability, or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• At least two years of supervisory experience and a valid North Carolina driver's license.
• Strong problem-solving skills, excellent written and oral communication skills, and ability to work effectively in a team environment.

• Knowledge of municipal planning and development, as well as familiarity with Town and North Carolina ordinances and land use policies.
• Comprehensive knowledge of sustainability best-practices, theories, and principles as they apply to municipal operations.
