About the Role

The County of Los Angeles is seeking a highly skilled Surgical Technician to join our team. As a Surgical Technician, you will play a critical role in ensuring the smooth operation of our operating rooms, providing direct and indirect care to patients before, during, and after surgery.

Key Responsibilities
  • Monitor and assess operating room conditions, including patient and surgical team needs.
  • Set up operating rooms prior to surgery, obtaining and checking equipment, instruments, packs, and supplies needed in surgery, according to nursing protocol.
  • Verify solutions, drugs, and drainage tubes with circulating nurses and label them accordingly.
  • Assist in maintaining and labeling specimens collected during surgery according to established procedures.
  • Serve as a scrub technician during various surgical procedures, handling sterile instruments and supplies while maintaining aseptic technique.
  • Clean, sort, sterilize, and decontaminate operating rooms, equipment, and instruments using sterilizers, ultrasonic, and Steris.
  • Dispose of waste and soiled supplies in appropriate receptacles.
  • Assemble, operate, adjust, and monitor support equipment such as suction machines, scopes, diagnostic equipment, and lights to ensure proper operation.
  • Under the direction of a surgeon, assist with suctioning, cutting sutures, and applying and removing dressings for operative procedures according to established policies and procedures.
  • Count sponges, needles, supplies, and instruments before surgery, before closure, during closure, and after surgery to ensure all surgical supplies are accounted for, in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  • Maintain files and records of surgical procedures.
  • Transport patients to and from perioperative services and/or medical wards and assist the surgeon and registered nurse in positioning, prepping, and draping patients for surgery.
Requirements
  • Two years of experience in an operating room assisting surgeons and medical staff during surgery.
  • Graduation from an accredited surgical technology program.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Current certification as a Surgical Technologist (CST) issued by The National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA).
  • Additional experience in an operating room assisting surgeons and medical staff during surgery.
