Job Overview

Wood County Hospital is seeking applications for the role of Clinical Nursing Technician within our Acute Care division. The Nursing Technician is responsible for delivering both personal and professional care, providing direct and indirect support to patients across all age groups, from pediatric to geriatric, under the guidance of a physician, registered nurse, or licensed practical nurse. This role also involves maintaining a safe and sanitary environment and performing assigned clerical and administrative tasks.

Key Responsibilities:

Under the supervision of a physician, registered nurse, or licensed practical nurse, and within the defined scope of practice, the Clinical Nursing Technician will:

  • Assist with and accurately document activities of daily living (ADLs), including but not limited to:
    • Bathing and personal hygiene
    • Dressing and undressing
    • Oral and hair care
    • Toileting assistance
    • Mobility support as per activity orders
    • Feeding and hydration, which includes:
    • Preparing patients for meals and assisting with positioning
    • Feeding patients who require assistance
    • Providing fresh drinking water and snacks as per dietary orders
    • Collecting and serving food trays
    • Positioning and repositioning patients according to scheduled turns
    • Performing skin care and pressure ulcer prevention techniques, notifying the RN of any concerns.
  • Assist with patient monitoring tasks, which include but are not limited to:
    • Obtaining blood glucose levels via capillary finger-stick as directed and informing the RN of results
    • Monitoring and documenting patient intake and output, including calorie counts, and alerting the RN to any irregularities
    • Measuring and recording vital signs such as blood pressure, pulse, respiratory rate, temperature, and oxygen saturation, and promptly notifying the RN of any abnormalities
    • Measuring patient height and weight
    • Conducting Point of Care (POC) testing (e.g., urine pregnancy tests, urine dip tests) and reporting results to the RN
    • Responding to alarms from peripheral IVs and bed/chair systems, notifying the RN immediately
    • Discontinuing peripheral IVs as required
    • Applying and removing non-sterile dressings and compresses, reporting any unusual findings to the RN
    • Conducting purposeful rounding in collaboration with the RN
    • Acting as a safety companion for patients.

Shift Information:

Hours: Full Time, 36 hours per week

Shifts: Variable, including Night Shift from 5:45 PM to 6:15 AM and Day Shift from 6:45 AM to 7:15 PM

May require on-call duties, weekend, and holiday rotations.

Qualifications:

Minimum Education:

  • Currently enrolled in an accredited RN nursing or surgical technology program

Minimum Certification:

  • Current American Heart Association (AHA) Healthcare Provider CPR (BLS) certification is required.
