Overview

The Developmental Disabilities Institute (DDI) stands as a leading provider of support services for individuals with Autism, developmental disabilities, and other special needs. With over 50 years of dedicated service in Long Island, DDI positively impacts the lives of more than 1,500 children and adults through a variety of innovative programs including educational initiatives, residential care, day habilitation, and vocational training.

Responsibilities

As an Aquatic Safety Specialist, you will:

  1. Be equipped for lifeguarding duties, adhering to the DDI Dress Code, and ensure you have essential items such as a towel, resuscitation face mask, and disposable gloves on hand.
  2. Respond promptly and effectively to emergencies, ensuring the safety of all individuals in the aquatic environment.
  3. Enforce all DDI policies and general aquatic facility regulations to maintain a safe swimming atmosphere.
  4. Participate in DDI's mandatory New Employee Orientation to familiarize yourself with organizational protocols.
  5. Understand and apply DDI's Pool and Water Policies effectively.
  6. Assess and supervise individuals based on their swimming capabilities and requirements.
  7. Conduct thorough inspections of the pool and surrounding areas prior to allowing entry, reporting any hazardous conditions to your supervisor.
  8. Complete necessary records and reports following each session.
  9. Ensure no individual is left unattended in the pool area.
  10. Secure the pool area upon departure.

Qualifications

To be considered for this role, candidates must possess:

  • Current Lifeguard Certification
  • Current CPR for the Professional Rescuer Certification
