El Paso, Texas, United States Southwest Coalition, Inc. Full time
Position: Certified Professional Midwife (CPM)

About Us

Guiding Star Southwest, a branch of Southwest Coalition, Inc., is on a mission to enhance life-affirming medical and birthing services for women in the El Paso region. As part of the national Guiding Star Project, we are dedicated to providing trauma-informed healthcare that honors the complete individual by addressing a woman's mind, body, and spirit. Our focus encompasses the entire spectrum of women's health, from adolescence through menopause, with an emphasis on fertility, pregnancy, childbirth, breastfeeding, and motherhood, while actively working to minimize trauma by challenging societal pressures that may hinder the natural processes of a woman's body.

The Role

As we broaden our core offerings to include a birthing center aligned with Wholistic Feminism, we seek dedicated midwives to collaborate closely with expectant mothers, assist in low-risk deliveries, and offer healthcare to women and infants following childbirth. The CPM will be involved in prenatal care, labor, delivery, and postpartum support, and may also provide reproductive health education to both female and male patients.

Key Responsibilities
  • Monitoring the health of expectant mothers and their unborn children.
  • Educating patients and their families about reproductive health, preparing for parenthood, and antenatal care.
  • Instructing patients on pain management techniques in preparation for labor.
  • Delivering babies in our birthing center while providing emotional support during labor.
  • Recording vital signs and ordering diagnostic tests as necessary.
  • Supporting patients and their partners through miscarriages, stillbirths, and neonatal losses.
  • Guiding new mothers on infant feeding practices.
  • Assisting patients in developing personalized birth plans.
  • Offering sound advice on diet, exercise, and medications suitable for pregnancy.
  • Collaborating with a team of lactation consultants and doulas.

Qualifications
  • Completion of an accredited midwifery educational program.
  • Certification from the American Midwifery Certification Board (AMCB) or North American Registry of Midwives (NARM).
  • Appropriate state licensure.
  • Demonstrated experience as a midwife.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) and Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certifications.
  • Fluency in English and Spanish.
  • Ability to perform under pressure.
  • Strong problem-solving, analytical, and clinical assessment skills.
  • Effective communication abilities.
  • Patient and compassionate demeanor.

Core Values

All team members are expected to embody and uphold our Core Values in their daily responsibilities:
  • Humble: Show respect and flexibility, prioritize others' success, and maintain a grounded perspective.
  • Hungry: Possess a relentless drive to effect change, taking initiative with optimism and an entrepreneurial mindset.
  • Smart: Exhibit strong emotional intelligence, understanding the effects of your actions and fostering open communication.
  • Heart: Demonstrate compassion, empathy, and a genuine desire to honor life and natural womanhood.

Note: This job description is a living document, and your passion and commitment will help shape the evolving nature of your responsibilities.
