Role Overview:

The Surgical Technician II plays a vital role within the healthcare team, providing essential technical support during the perioperative phase under the guidance and supervision of a Registered Nurse, adhering to established clinical standards of care.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Verifies supplies and equipment required for surgical operations
  • Prepares by scrubbing, gowning, and gloving
  • Arranges sterile tables with necessary instruments, supplies, equipment, and medications, demonstrating knowledge of procedures and patient positioning
  • Conducts accurate counts with the circulator prior to surgery and before closing incisions
  • Assists in gowning and gloving the surgeon and assistants
  • Aids in draping the sterile field
  • Passes instruments to the surgeon during procedures
  • Maintains the highest standards of sterile technique throughout the procedure
  • Prepares sterile dressings
  • Cleans and readies instruments for terminal sterilization
  • Supports team members in the terminal cleaning of the operating room
  • Assists in preparing the room for subsequent patients
  • Collaborates with RN and team members to ensure safe patient care
  • Handles surgical specimens with utmost accuracy
  • Reacts promptly and appropriately to emergency situations
  • Engages in cost-effective practices endorsed by the organization
  • Completes tasks in a timely manner, communicating any updates or delays to team members
  • Reports supply issues appropriately and restocks as necessary
  • Accepts new assignments or changes in assignments with a positive attitude
  • Demonstrates flexibility in scheduling to meet unit needs
  • Independently enhances clinical knowledge and skills, working with unfamiliar procedures and surgeons to broaden expertise
  • Takes ownership of decisions, actions, and outcomes, fulfilling commitments

Qualifications:

Essential Knowledge, Skills, Licensure, and Education:

  • Proficient understanding of sterile techniques, instrumentation, equipment, and sterile field setup
  • Familiarity with sterilization methods
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Successful completion of an accredited Surgical Technology Program
