Position Overview:

SUNY Ulster County Community College is seeking a dedicated individual for the role of Veterans Outreach Coordinator. This part-time position focuses on enhancing communication between veteran students and the college's support services, aiming to increase veteran enrollment and facilitate access to essential resources.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Oversee the daily functions of the Veterans Center, including managing veteran work-study personnel.
  • Implement outreach initiatives to promote recruitment and awareness of VA benefits.
  • Coordinate efforts with other veteran work-study students to assist in outreach and recruitment activities.
  • Collaborate with various departments such as Marketing & Public Relations and Enrollment Services to effectively promote programs and resources available to veterans.
  • Build and maintain relationships with community organizations, including Veterans' Affairs and military employment groups, to support student needs.
  • Guide students through the enrollment process, working closely with the Veterans' Affairs benefits coordinator.
  • Assist both prospective and current veteran students in accessing relevant services to clarify their educational and career objectives.
  • Advise college administration on strategies to enhance the institution's reputation as a veteran-friendly environment.
  • Maintain a constructive and supportive relationship with supervisors, staff, students, and the broader community.
  • Consult with veterans regarding academic challenges and help them access necessary resources.
Qualifications:

Applicants should possess an Associate's Degree and have military experience. A commitment to the community college's mission of serving a diverse student population is essential. Candidates should demonstrate the ability to work effectively in a multicultural setting and be sensitive to the needs of non-traditional and re-entry students.

Preferred Experience:

Experience working with veterans is highly desirable.

Compensation:

The hourly wage for this position is $30.88.
