Key Responsibilities
  • Provide Clinical Advice: Offer expert clinical advice to patients via phone or electronic correspondence, utilizing clinical judgment and triage protocols in accordance with regulatory requirements and standards of practice.
  • Patient Education: Deliver patient-specific education on preventive care, chronic disease management, acute diagnosis, medications, and other areas pertinent to patient outcomes.
  • Room Preparation: Prepare patients for visits by utilizing appropriate rooming standards tools.
  • Medication Administration: Administer injections and medications as prescribed by providers and in accordance with department protocol, regulatory requirements, and standards of practice.
  • Procedure Support: Assist providers with various procedures, minor surgeries, and other exams as designated by providers.
  • Point of Care Testing: Perform Point of Care Testing, including but not limited to hearing, flu, urine, and strep tests.
  • Specimen Collection: Collect blood or other laboratory specimens and prepare them for further testing.
  • Prescription Refills: Authorize prescription refills as instructed by providers.
  • Test Tracking: Assist with test tracking and monitoring overdue results.
  • Wound Care: Remove sutures and change dressings on wounds as necessary.
  • Exam Room Maintenance: Ensure exam rooms are adequately supplied and cleaned after each patient visit. Maintain and clean medical instruments and equipment after each procedure.
  • Care Coordination: Assist providers and patients in reviewing and revising care plans and assess patient progress. Follow up with patients between visits as necessary.
  • Proactive Outreach: Assist with proactive outreach for patients requiring preventive and chronic disease services.
  • Performance Improvement: Actively participate in performance improvement initiatives to improve overall patient experience and quality of care.
  • Team Collaboration: Participate in daily huddles with providers.
  • Confidentiality: Handle all patient information in a confidential manner according to Lancaster General Health privacy and confidentiality policies and procedures.
Requirements
  • Education: Completion of a LPN or RN educational program.
  • Licensure: Current licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), issued by the PA State Board of Nursing.
  • Certification: AHA CPR/BLS certification required within 30 days of hire.
  • Experience: One to Two years of nursing experience in a primary or specialty care physicians office. Prior triage, emergency room, cardiac care, intensive care, or other related specialty nursing experience.
