Job Summary

We are seeking a highly qualified Professor of German Studies to join our faculty at Michigan State University. The successful candidate will have a strong background in German language and culture, with a specialization in linguistics and culture. The position is a full-time, academic year (9 month) appointment, beginning August 16, 2025.

Key Responsibilities
  • Teach graduate and undergraduate courses in German language and culture, including linguistics and culture.
  • Conduct research in linguistics and culture, with a focus on social justice issues.
  • Develop and implement curriculum in German language and culture, including linguistics and culture.
  • Collaborate with colleagues in the Department of Linguistics, Languages, and Cultures and the College of Arts and Letters.
  • Participate in departmental and college service, including committee work and outreach.
Requirements
  • Doctoral degree in German Studies, Linguistics, Applied Linguistics, or a related field.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in German and English.
  • Record of excellence in scholarly work, including traditional publications and public scholarship.
  • Robust intellectual leadership agenda in linguistics and culture, with a focus on social justice issues.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with education abroad, language program coordination, and/or community engagement.
  • Interest in or experience with mentoring and supervision.
  • Ability to contribute to the German Studies Program's mission and vision in research, teaching, and community engagement.
