Job Description:

The EBI (Enterprise Business Intelligence) environment is expanding its data analytics, reporting, and visualizations capabilities by introducing MS Power BI to its suite.

This contracted resource is needed to bring expertise and best practices to the EBI in-house operations team in the configuration, implementation, and administration of the Power BI platform.

Responsibilities include:

  • Implementing, maintaining, and growing the Power BI platform.
  • Advancing the future state of self-service analytics.
  • Administering Microsoft Power BI platform and On-Premise Gateway.
  • Leading implementation planning and configuration.
  • Performing initial configurations and implementation of Microsoft Power BI architecture in coordination with EBI management team.
  • Reviewing and expanding existing usage standards, processes, or training materials as part of implementation.
  • Administering Microsoft Power BI platform and On-Premise Gateway, leading upgrade planning, configuration, and capacity planning.
  • Coordinating with Microsoft Premium Support and other EBI team members when troubleshooting and resolving performance issues.
  • Guiding Power BI Dashboard developers and other colleagues during dashboard development using Power BI and DAX to establish and promote best practices for dashboard and data set development and publishing.
  • Optimizing Workspaces and datasets to promote ease of self-service and provide a secure, structured organization of workspaces, apps, data sets, and dashboards.
  • Working with business partners to migrate existing workspaces and data sets into an organized catalog of information areas and data sets.
  • Advancing access control and data security capabilities in accordance with EBI, DoIT CSG, and individual State Agency's security considerations.
  • Establishing monitoring and service performance reporting together with EBI operational teams.
  • Developing and implementing automation of promotion and deployment/publishing of data dashboards, data sets, and refreshes through Broadcom's CA Workload, PowerShell scripting, and other means.
  • Assessing, building, and optimizing new and existing reports and data visualization dashboard prototypes using Power BI and DAX as required to triage issues or recommend improvements.

Required Skills:

  • Deploying and managing Power BI Premium in an enterprise-size organization, including managing users, Apps, Workspaces, and Content Packs.
  • Administration experience of OnPrem Data Gateway at enterprise level environment with large number of users.
  • Knowledge of Power BI Premium Capacity Metrics.
  • Proven experience performing Power BI On-Prem Data Gateway installation, upgrades, and configurations.
  • Experience with "cmd" and PowerShell scripting for automation.
  • Solid understanding of Power BI security (access control, data row-level security, use of roles to control sharing, publishing, data export).
  • Proficiency in SQL and experience in relational databases/data warehouses (Oracle, SQL Server).
