Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee the activities of Assistant Teachers and establish curriculum standards for the classroom.
  • Ensure a safe and healthy environment, both physically and mentally, to maintain a high-quality Child Care program.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to caring for children across various developmental stages.
  • Complete the Department of Children & Families 45-hour Introductory Child Care Training within the specified timeframe.
  • Participate in all staff meetings and fulfill educational requirements through in-service training.
  • Assist in planning and executing daily lesson plans tailored to the children's needs and interests.
  • Maintain the quality of supplies, equipment, and materials.
  • Report any suspicions of child abuse to the appropriate authorities.
  • Ensure proper procedures are followed for the daily sign-in/out of children.
  • Document all accidents and incidents accurately and report them to the Supervisor.
  • Contribute to the daily upkeep of the childcare area, ensuring safety and cleanliness.
  • Share responsibilities for regular housekeeping tasks, including cleaning and preparing for daily activities.
  • Uphold YMCA Core Values in all interactions.
  • Build relationships with each child, understanding their individual levels of comprehension and treating them with respect and dignity.
  • Foster positive relationships with parents and staff.
  • Engage in enrollment retention, special events, and fundraising activities.
  • Complete all necessary paperwork clearly and accurately.
  • Stay informed about emergency procedures and family center policies.
  • Promote and embody the mission and core values of the YMCA of Central Florida in all programs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management.
Qualifications
  • Florida's Childcare Professional Certificate (FCCPC) OR National CDA (NECC) OR Verification of an associate's degree or higher.
  • Minimum of one year of experience in child care.
  • CPR/AED and First Aid certifications must be obtained within 60 days of employment.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Genuine desire and ability to work with children of all ages and developmental levels.
  • Must maintain a high level of alertness, prioritizing safety.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure in a dynamic environment.
  • Completion of Emergency Literacy for VPK Instructors (VPKR course code).
  • Knowledge of Florida Standards in Preschool Classrooms: 3 years old to Kindergarten (VFSP course code).
  • Completion of 15 hours of Literacy Course Requirement.
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
  • Flexibility to work a varied schedule, including weekends and holidays as necessary.
  • Willingness to participate in an on-call schedule rotation as required.
  • Typical noise levels in the work environment range from moderate to loud.
  • Physical activities include stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, and repetitive motions. Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. and exert up to 20 pounds of force frequently.
  • May require extended periods of sitting, standing, or physical activity.
  • Must demonstrate patience and understanding, following detailed instructions.
  • Must possess adequate hearing and visual capabilities to monitor the environment and children's well-being.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure in a sometimes disruptive environment.
