Nuclear Medicine Technologist Job Description

UNC Health Care is seeking a skilled Nuclear Medicine Technologist to join our team in Raleigh, NC.

Job Summary

This position performs and teaches diagnostic procedures in the field of Nuclear Medicine. The Nuclear Medicine Technologist works under the direct supervision of the Nuclear Medicine Supervisor and takes direction from the Nuclear Medicine physicians.

Responsibilities
  • Administer radiopharmaceuticals and record route of administration, dose, and technologist's initials.
  • Evaluate requisitions, charts, and lab results, and perform patient assessments.
  • Describe exams to patients, obtain informed consent, and complete necessary paperwork.
  • Perform advanced duties such as PET imaging and lead technologist roles.
  • Handle radiopharmaceuticals, including receipt, documentation, and disposal, following Radiation Safety Office and NRC guidelines.
  • Select, dose, and quality control radiopharmaceuticals, ensuring each dose is correct for the ordered procedure.
  • Set up acquisition and perform according to protocol, maintaining patient comfort, care, and safety.
  • Analyze images and evaluate for correctness, processing films and submitting to physicians for approval.
Requirements
  • Graduation from an accredited Nuclear Medicine Technology program.
  • Registered as a Nuclear Medicine Technologist by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) or the Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB) or registry eligible and become registered within one (1) year from date of hire.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Provider certification.
