Diagnostic Medical Sonographer

We are seeking a highly skilled Diagnostic Medical Sonographer to join our team at Brigham and Women's Hospital(BWH). As a Diagnostic Medical Sonographer, you will be responsible for performing ultrasound examinations and providing high-quality images to aid in the diagnosis and treatment of various medical conditions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Obtain and review patient charts to obtain pertinent clinical history, test results, and laboratory data.
- Explain exams to patients, taking into consideration their physical and emotional needs.
- Perform ultrasound studies on premature infants in an intensive care unit, demonstrating knowledge of illnesses related to this patient population.
- Operate and maintain ultrasound equipment, notifying appropriate personnel of malfunctions and repairs needed.
- Rotate within the department, divisions, and off-site clinics, promoting harmony and effective working relations with departmental and hospital personnel.
- Execute paperwork, PACS, RIS, and reporting functions as necessary for each patient exam.
- Prepare equipment, rooms, and supplies necessary for each patient and regular daily use.
- May oversee and instruct various personnel and technology students within the department.
- Participate in research programs, quality assurance, and quality improvement projects carried on in the department.
- Assume all responsibilities for on-call coverage and remain flexible in shift coverage and overtime situations.
- Remain up to date on developments and trends in imaging techniques, procedures, and equipment.
Requirements:
- Graduation from an AMA-accredited Ultrasound Program with a minimum of 12 months' full-time clinical ultrasound experience.
- Meet the requirements and successfully complete the ARDMS certification or equivalent.
- Become registered in all institution-accredited specialties within specified timeframes.
Skills and Abilities:
- Interpersonal skills to interact effectively with patients under physical and emotional stress.
- Analytical abilities to acquire and utilize knowledge of imaging processes, techniques, and procedures.
- Ability to adapt to changing pace within the department, with frequent interruptions.
- Presents a positive attitude and professional appearance.
- Physically capable of lifting linen, supplies, patients, etc.
- Comprehensive understanding of Radiology Information System and Hospital Information System for registering patients.
- Demonstrate flexibility and willingness to adapt to diverse roles as a member of the department team.
- Aware of hazards within the department, adhering to safety standards established by Brigham & Women's Hospital and other regulatory agencies.
Working Conditions:
- Normal teaching clinical hospital environment.
- Exposure to high-frequency sound waves.
- Possibility of contact with infectious diseases and bodily fluids.
- Standing and walking most of the day.
