Job Summary

This position is located in the Nursing Services Branch, Dzilth-Na-O-Dith-Hle Health Center (DZHC), Bloomfield, NM. The purpose of this position is to manage programs for Infection Control, Risk Management, and Employee Health.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develops, implements, and evaluates the DZHC Infection Control Program including nosocomial infection prevention, Tuberculosis (TB) prevention and monitoring, and the exposure plan.
  • Assures that the programs meet all regulatory and accreditation requirements.
  • Establishes and monitors infection control policies and procedures for the facility.
  • Provides infection control education, updates on new issues or trends, and infection control basics to all medical staff.
  • Delivers targeted education to high-risk departments by focusing on issues pertinent to the medical providers and relevant staff.
  • Responsible for new employee orientation when it is scheduled.
  • Serves as a consultant to administrative, medical professionals, housekeeping, and allied health staff on matters relating to infection control and prevention.
  • Serves as the facilitator and the subject matter expert for all staff members.
  • Prepares, distributes and maintains all minutes and documents for the Infection Control and Environment of Care committees.
  • Serves as the liaison with Shiprock Service Unit's Infection Control and Safety Officer.
  • Participates in the facility's performance program by gathering and analyzing data as described by the Performance Improvement Plan.
  • Delivers annual plans, quarterly reports, and year-end evaluations to the Supervisor Nurse and Health System Administrator.
  • Notifies the supervisor on infractions against standard operating policies and procedures that expose guests, employees, and/or the facility of the risk of infection or complications resulting from contamination.
  • Develops and participates in planning, conducting and scheduling of timely in-service training classes and educational programs that provides instructions on various topics such as: Standard Precautions, HIV and Hepatitis B, Hazardous and Infectious Waste Management, Isolation techniques mandated by Centers for Disease Control (CDC), and other standards from Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), and other regulatory agencies.
  • The incumbent is responsible for the development, administration, evaluation, and documentation for all risk management activities for DZHC.
  • Works closely with facility departments to implement National Patient Safety Goals (NPSGs) and in review of PCEs.
  • Participates in safety rounds and provides risk management orientation material to entire facility on wide variety of risk management issues.
  • Maintains and review employee health folders with immunization status, purified protein derivative (PPD), TB status, exposures and employment related health information.
Requirements
  • Must pass pre-employment examination.
  • Selectee may be subject to a probationary period.
  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.
  • This is a designated position covered by Public Law 101-630, requiring contact or control over Indian children.
  • Confidential Financial Disclosure Form required.
  • Measles and Rubella immunization required for selectees born after 1957 and seasonal influenza immunization is required for all staff working in Indian Health Service health care facilities.
  • COVID-19 vaccination is required for all selectees prior to entrance on duty.
  • The selected individual is required to obtain and maintain, including any licensure requirements.
  • If privileges are not obtained or maintained during employment, the employee will be subject to adverse actions, up to and including removal from Federal service.
  • On-call hours or standby duty may be required.
  • Successfully pass the E-Verify employment verification check.
