Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Probation Officer to join our team at the County of Santa Clara CA. As a Probation Officer, you will play a critical role in supporting the rehabilitation and reintegration of adult and juvenile offenders into their communities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Investigate and supervise cases involving adult or juvenile offenders.
  • Conduct interviews with offenders, their families, and interested parties to determine the nature of their difficulties.
  • Conduct investigations and report on findings.
  • Make necessary arrests to protect the community.
  • Recommend plans for the adjustment of offenders and interpret the plan to the probationer, their family, and interested parties.
  • Conduct field visits to monitor compliance with court orders and probation conditions.
  • Conduct random searches according to the conditions of probation.
  • Collect urine specimens for chemical analysis.
  • Maintain contact with the probationer to assist them in making a satisfactory social adjustment.
  • Appear in court while cases are under consideration and make recommendations as to the case's disposition.
  • Cooperate with staff from other agencies on cases of mutual interest.
  • Confers with supervisors and other staff members on general casework techniques and specific case situations.
  • Prepare and maintain case records and reports.
Requirements
  • A Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university preferably with specialization in Sociology, Criminology, Psychology, Penology, or closely related field.
  • Must be a citizen of the United States or a permanent resident who is eligible for and has applied for citizenship.
  • Must possess a valid California Motor Vehicle operator's license.
  • Applicants with a felony conviction and/or a conviction outside of California that would be considered a felony in this state will be disqualified.
  • Must complete the DPO Core Training Course.
