We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Emergency Room Technician to join our team at Ventura County Medical Center and Santa Paula Hospital. As an Emergency Room Technician, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality patient care and support to our patients and families.
Key Responsibilities- Assist licensed professional staff in the Emergency Department with various patient care activities, including vital sign collection, oxygen saturation monitoring, and non-invasive blood pressure monitoring.
- Obtain and document patient information, including medical history, allergies, and medications.
- Assist with obtaining 12-lead EKGs and collecting blood and other lab samples, as well as performing lab testing in accordance with established policies and procedures.
- Conduct quality control checks and review of equipment as required by department/unit.
- Assist with patient activities and care as assigned by the charge nurse/designee, including wound care, orthopedic splinting, and bandages.
- Measure and fit crutches and canes, and instruct patients on proper use.
- Maintain use of appropriate medical equipment and supplies.
- Assist in transporting patients, supplies, and equipment.
- Clean and stock carts, rooms, and change and stock linen as required.
- Prepare and chaperone patients during examinations/procedures or assist with other patient treatments.
- Assist with patient restraints under the direction of the RN and/or provider.
- Provide for patient safety related to age and condition.
- May assist with orienting new staff.
- Attend staff meetings or other mandated meetings/classes and unit competencies as required.
- Possession of a high school diploma or equivalent.
- Six (6) months of full-time experience working in an Emergency Room performing duties similar to the ones listed above.
- OR Possession of a current/valid Emergency Medical Technician license.
- Candidates must have a valid Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) certificate prior to the first day of employment and maintain it thereafter.
- Current/valid Emergency Medical Technician (EMT-1) certification issued by the State of California if using it to qualify.
- Must obtain and maintain thereafter a Phlebotomy Certificate issued by the California State Department of Health Services within one (1) year of placement into this classification.
- Knowledge of relevant medical terminology, basic patient care and/or administrative techniques, medical assisting skills, and the various types of materials and equipment related to outpatient care and their applications.
- Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing, establish and maintain good relations with a wide range of social and ethnic groups, and perform routine clinical procedures.
Duties require frequent standing, bending, reaching, squatting, and kneeling, and the ability to move, position, and lift patients and/or equipment to perform nursing assistant duties/procedures.
