Santa Clara, California, United States Palo Alto Networks Full time
Company Overview

Our Purpose

At Palo Alto Networks, our journey begins and concludes with our core mission:

To be the preferred cybersecurity ally, safeguarding our digital existence.

We envision a reality where each day is more secure than the last. Our organization is founded on the principles of challenging and transforming conventional practices, and we seek forward-thinkers who are dedicated to influencing the future of cybersecurity.

Our Work Philosophy

We prioritize flexibility and choice in all our employee initiatives. We have redefined the traditional notion that all employees share identical needs and desires. We provide personalized options, allowing our team members to select what best suits them—from wellness support to professional growth and beyond.

At Palo Alto Networks, we recognize the significance of teamwork and value face-to-face interactions. This is why our employees typically work from the office three days a week, with two days dedicated to personal choice and flexibility in their work environment. This arrangement encourages informal discussions, collaborative problem-solving, and the establishment of trusted relationships. While specifics may evolve, our objective is to cultivate an atmosphere where innovation flourishes, with office-based teams convening three days a week to collaborate and succeed together.

Position Overview

Your Role

As a Lead Quality Assurance Engineer, you will architect, develop, and deliver cutting-edge technologies. You will create, automate, and execute performance testing scenarios for our products within virtualized environments.

Your involvement in design discussions will be crucial in shaping the future trajectory of our AI/ML software. You will enhance the efficiency and dependability of our offerings by rigorously testing them to identify potential risks, bugs, or issues, ensuring an exceptional product experience for our users. You are committed to excellence—refusing to settle until the products you engage with meet the highest standards. You enjoy uncovering problems within code, seeking resolutions, and embracing the challenge of a code-based exploration that includes testing, providing feedback, and proposing alternative solutions for our product ecosystem.

We are in search of highly skilled professionals eager to gain hands-on experience with a diverse array of networking technologies. You will collaborate closely with our development and product management teams, testing and presenting findings to explore new methodologies.

Your Contributions

  • Design, develop, and implement test automation to evaluate software features on our next-generation security platform as part of our AI/ML Strata Cloud Service.
  • Establish and maintain test automation frameworks.
  • Create tools and infrastructure that empower engineers to build, test, and deploy features with confidence and continuity.
  • Comprehend customer configurations—debug, reproduce, verify fixes, and add new test cases for issues identified in customer deployments.
  • Conduct endurance and scalability testing to validate robust feature functionality under stress.
  • Collaborate closely with Software Engineering and Product Management teams throughout the product development lifecycle from design to release.
  • Document bugs and collaborate with Development to resolve identified issues.
  • Integrate your creative skills with a focused testing strategy to deliver top-quality cybersecurity products.
  • Engage in a meticulous approach to testing specifications, assisting the team with testing methodologies or tools for new testing initiatives.
  • Participate in projects involving various public cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure) to automate cloud orchestration, visualization, and alerting mechanisms.
  • Configure, build, and enhance both Functional and System Testbeds.
  • Exhibit excellent troubleshooting skills—debugging issues discovered during testing and verifying bug fixes post-resolution.
Qualifications

Your Background

  • BS or MS in computer science or a related technical field, or equivalent military experience is required.
  • 10+ years of relevant experience as a Systems Test Engineer in networking/cloud technologies.
  • Proficiency in API and UI automation/testing.
  • Python is a required programming language.
  • Experience in scripting and/or programming with a focus on Infrastructure and Tools development.
  • Strong understanding of networking concepts and L2-L7 protocols.
  • Familiarity with Unix/Linux operating systems.
  • Comfortable working within Agile methodologies in both small and large teams.
  • Proven experience in leading test strategies for Cloud products such as AWS, Google Cloud Platform (GCP), and Azure.
  • Experience in testing container technologies (Docker, Kubernetes) is advantageous.
  • Background in testing network security products, particularly firewalls and intrusion prevention systems, is a plus.
  • Experience with VMWare vSphere is beneficial.
  • Experience driving performance testing efforts for complex, asynchronous microservice-based systems.
  • A self-motivated individual who is confident and effective in collaborating across distributed teams.
  • Exceptional communication and teamwork skills.
Team Dynamics

Our Engineering Team

To stay ahead of emerging threats, it is essential to recognize and anticipate the evolving landscape of cybersecurity. As the fastest-growing cybersecurity firm, we are focused on the evolution of cyberattacks and the innovative products and services that proactively counter them. Our engineering team is integral to our offerings—directly linked to our mission of preventing cyberattacks. They are continually innovating—challenging conventional perspectives on cybersecurity. These engineers are not hesitant to create solutions for challenges that have yet to be addressed. They define the industry rather than waiting for guidance. We seek individuals who thrive in uncertainty, are invigorated by challenges, and are empowered by the unknown risks that necessitate a secure digital environment.

Our engineering team is presented with an unparalleled opportunity to develop the products and practices that will support our company's growth over the next decade, shaping the cybersecurity industry as we know it. If you recognize the transformative potential of exceptional products, this is the team for you. If you proactively identify new features and opportunities for improvement, this could be your next career move.

Our Commitment to Diversity

We are pioneers who dream big, take risks, and challenge the status quo in cybersecurity. It is straightforward: we cannot fulfill our mission without diverse teams innovating together.

Palo Alto Networks is an equal opportunity employer. We celebrate diversity in our workplace, and all qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to age, ancestry, color, family or medical care leave, gender identity or expression, genetic information, marital status, medical condition, national origin, physical or mental disability, political affiliation, protected veteran status, race, religion, sex (including pregnancy), sexual orientation, or other legally protected characteristics.

All information will be kept confidential according to EEO guidelines.

The compensation for this position will depend on qualifications, experience, and work location. The starting base salary (for non-sales roles) or base salary + commission target (for sales/commissioned roles) is expected to be competitive.
