Job Summary

The Utah State University Research Farm is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented individual to join our team as a Research Farm Laborer. This is a seasonal position that will involve assisting in the maintenance and upkeep of our research orchards, as well as participating in harvest efforts and data collection activities.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the maintenance of research orchards, including tasks such as removing rootsuckers, hoeing weeds, watering, and summer pruning.
  • Participate in harvest efforts, including hand thinning fruit in the early portion of the season and harvesting mature fruit later in the season.
  • Assist in data collection activities, including measuring growth of trees, recording harvest counts, weights, and quality measures, and assessing the effects of chemical treatments.

Requirements

  • Must be 16 years of age and have a valid driver's license to perform essential job responsibilities.
  • Must be able to work outdoors in warm or otherwise inclement weather.
  • Must be able to work productively without direct supervision.

Working Conditions

The Research Farm Laborer will work in a fast-paced outdoor environment, with frequent exposure to changing weather conditions. The incumbent may be required to lift, push, and/or pull objects up to 50 pounds and be required to walk and/or stand for long periods of time.
