Medical Laboratory Specialist

As a Medical Laboratory Technician at Owensboro Health, you will play a critical role in ensuring the accuracy and reliability of laboratory test results. Your primary responsibility will be to perform clinical laboratory tests according to established procedures, verifying the quality of results and recording them appropriately.
Key Responsibilities- Perform quality control procedures to validate test results and maintain accurate records.
- Assist in delivering physician reports via phone and electronic distribution in a timely manner.
- Respond to technical questions from units and physicians.
- Perform preventive maintenance and monitoring of laboratory equipment to ensure proper functioning and maintain related records.
- Record instrument logs for repairs, replacements, and maintenance of equipment.
- Maintain adequate supply inventories by rotating stock, checking expiration dates, and ordering replacement stock.
- Perform venipuncture on patients of all age groups and other specimen collection using proper therapeutic skills according to procedures.
- Assist supervisors in additional duties that support the lab's quality program.
- Provide teaching and education to students and other personnel.
- Associate's degree or higher in Science required upon hire.
- Associate's degree or higher in a related field required upon hire.
- A combination of education, training, and experience may be considered in lieu of degree.
- No experience required.
- MLT - Certified Medical Laboratory Technician through American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) required within 12 months of employment in this position.
- MLT - Certified Medical Laboratory Technician through American Medical Technologists (AMT) required within 12 months of employment in this position.
- Requires critical thinking skills and decisive judgment.
- Works under minimal supervision.
- Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
- Ability to meet requirements for 'High Complexity Testing Personnel' per the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA).
