Job Title: WIC Qualified Nutritionist

Catholic Charities of Buffalo is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated WIC Qualified Nutritionist to join our team.

Job Summary

The WIC Qualified Nutritionist will work collaboratively with our staff to ensure the smooth and efficient operation of our WIC program. This role will involve administering the nutrition-related components of the program, following the policies and procedures of the NYS Department of Health WIC Program Manual.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide exceptional customer service to participants.
  • Enroll participants by completing a nutritional assessment, program eligibility, and determining nutrition risk.
  • Prescribe, tailor, authorize, issue, and reissue food packages, documenting nutrition services provided.
  • Review and approve formula requests requiring medical documentation in consultation with the Health Care Provider.
  • Conduct nutrition risk assessments to determine all nutrition risk criteria and program eligibility.
  • Identify participant high risk, develop a care plan, and work with the team to ensure continuity of care.
  • Prescribe, tailor, authorize, and reissue food packages.
  • Coordinate nutrition education, including breastfeeding promotion and support, responsive to the identified needs and interests of each participant.
  • Conduct breastfeeding assessments and provide counseling on breastfeeding concerns or issues, referring to the Designated Breastfeeding Expert as needed.
  • Refer participants to other health-related and social services as necessary.
  • Track participants' progress in improving their health and document outcomes.
  • Ensure the efficient flow of the assessment and education processes.
  • Complete required Catholic Charities, WIC, and DOH trainings.
  • Maintain continuing education credits as required by position.
  • Plan, conduct, and evaluate participant-centered nutrition education materials and services.
  • Comply with the Agency's Compliance Program, Code of Ethics, laws, regulations, and ethical standards applicable to your position in the WIC program and Catholic Charities.
  • Assist in training new staff.
  • Provide clinic supervision in the absence of Coordinator/Site Leaders or Lead QN.
  • Travel to all sites, transport laptops, computers, and other equipment to sites.
  • May be required to lift up to 30lbs.
Requirements
  • Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RD/RDN) or Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in Nutrition.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Reliable transportation and ability to travel to other WIC sites and transport equipment.
