Job Summary

The Jewish Community Center of Denver is in search of skilled ceramics educators to facilitate both daytime and evening workshops.

Under the guidance of the Ceramic Studio Manager, educators will undertake various responsibilities related to organizing and instructing ceramics classes for children (ages 6 and up) and adults.

Instructors should possess the ability to teach both hand-building and pottery wheel techniques.

This is an on-call role, limited to a maximum of 25 hours per week, and does not come with benefits. The schedule may vary, requiring availability during evenings and weekends. In addition to instructional hours, educators will receive compensation for preparation, setup, and cleanup time.



Key Responsibilities

  • Design, plan, and deliver pottery classes for the community.
  • Demonstrate expertise in hand-building, wheel throwing, surface design, glazing, and the clay lifecycle.
  • Manage the firing of student pottery and the loading/unloading of kilns.
  • Prepare supply lists for classes.
  • Set up before and clean up after each session.
  • Maintain a clean and organized ceramics studio.
  • Address inquiries from participants and community members regarding classes.
  • Provide varied instructional demonstrations.
  • Support student success through guidance and individual assistance.
  • Be available to work evenings, weekends, and some holidays.
  • Gather and report feedback to the Mizel Arts and Culture Directors for future program enhancements.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned, including teaching art classes in various mediums.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Comply with JCC policies and procedures.
  • Act as a representative of the JCC both internally and externally.
  • Adapt to workload demands as necessary.
  • Utilize internal systems and platforms required for job execution.
  • Maintain a positive and respectful demeanor.
  • Exhibit effective time management skills and prioritize tasks efficiently.

Qualifications

Essential Qualifications:

  • Associate degree or higher in fine arts or a related discipline.
  • Proficiency in pottery and ceramics.
  • Experience operating a kiln.
  • Background working with diverse age groups and communities.
  • Prior experience in planning, managing, or coordinating art programs.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational abilities with a capacity to manage multiple tasks effectively.
  • Ability to evaluate, analyze, and modify programs as needed.
  • Current CPR/First Aid Certification.
Physical and Mental Requirements

  • Ability to concentrate, take initiative, manage stress, and remain alert in a professional environment.
  • Must be able to speak, hear, see, and walk more than 2 miles daily.
  • Capability to stand and sit on the floor.
  • Occasional lifting or moving of items up to 25 pounds.
