Lead / Mid Level Construction Estimator - Sheet Metal

Apex Systems is seeking a skilled Construction Estimator to join our team. As a key member of our Estimating Team, you will be responsible for assessing sheet metal project costs and developing accurate estimates for construction, manufacturing, or other projects.

This is a hybrid position that requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively with project teams.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Communicate effectively with clients, business partners, and colleagues.
  • Collaborate with project managers, engineers, architects, and subcontractors to gather necessary information and ensure accurate estimates.
  • Review and interpret project documents, including drawings, specifications, and contracts to develop a clear understanding of the project scope.
  • Identify discrepancies and gaps in the documents that must be addressed for a complete proposal.
  • Prepare comprehensive and accurate cost estimates for construction projects, including labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractor costs.
  • Solicit subcontractor and vendor pricing and ensure proper scope inclusion.
  • Complete detailed labor and material takeoffs.
  • Clearly articulate scope in verbal and written formats.
  • Prepare a complete and detailed proposal with cost and qualifications.
  • Attend scope meetings with clients to answer questions about the estimate and project.
  • Efficiently transfer the project scope to the operations team upon award.
Requirements:
  • 2-5 years of experience in sheet metal estimating or a related field.
  • Bachelor's degree in construction management or a related field or equivalent work experience.
  • Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated presentation skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of construction drawings, specifications, and industry standards.
  • Demonstrated analytical and mathematical skills with a keen attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills and ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Demonstrated understanding of HVAC systems, components, and installation methods.
  • Experience with sheet metal estimating preferred.
  • Software Experience Necessary:
  • Microsoft Suite
  • Bluebeam Review
  • FastPipe, FastDuct or Other OnScreen Takeoff applications.
