School Counselor

Job Summary:

We are seeking a qualified Guidance Counselor to join our team at Kayenta Unified School District 27. The successful candidate will provide counseling services to elementary school students, promoting their academic success and personal growth.

1. Collaborate with school counseling staff to provide a system of support for students experiencing difficulties.
2. Work with parents, staff, and other school counselors to develop individual intervention services that promote positive social and emotional well-being.
3. Monitor students with low academic performance, attendance, or other issues, and develop strategies to address these concerns.
4. Maintain records of student services and ensure confidentiality.
5. Assist students in developing problem-solving and coping skills related to home and school.
6. Counsel students experiencing emotional and behavioral problems, and make referrals as necessary.
7. Implement developmentally appropriate group activities to address student needs.
8. Provide individual and group counseling to students with social, emotional, and/or substance abuse concerns.
9. Collaborate with parents, guardians, teachers, administrators, and community agencies to support students with identified needs.
10. Work with local community agencies and government organizations to address issues related to abuse, truancy, and counseling referrals.

• A valid Arizona State Guidance Counselor Certificate.
• Master's Degree in Guidance Counseling.
• Bilingual English and Navajo speaker preferred.
• Valid Arizona State Fingerprint Clearance Card.
• Two years of successful experience working with elementary school-aged children and parents.
• Counseling experience required.
• Computer literacy.
• 15 hours of State-approved Structured English Immersion (SEI) coursework.
• Demonstrated aptitude or competence for assigned responsibilities.

10 months per year, with flexible schedules arranged to supervisor's recommendation and contract dates.
