Job Title: Chief Medical Officer Peace Harbor

PeaceHealth is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Chief Medical Officer (CMO) to lead our medical staff and quality initiatives at Peace Harbor Medical Center in Florence, OR.

About the Role:

The CMO will serve as a member of the local Executive Team and participate in the design and development of the organization's strategic plan and vision. This individual will work closely with the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) in a physician/administrator dyad formation to lead quality, patient safety, and patient experience of care in the community.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead clinical quality improvement, patient safety, and regulatory and accreditation projects/concerns within assigned communities.
  • Collaborate with system colleagues, Community Executive Team, and Leadership Council to ensure established medical practices express PeaceHealth's mission, vision, and organizational standards.
  • Participate in the planning, organization, and administration of general and medical policies and procedures in the hospital by membership in a variety of committees.
  • Assist in removing barriers to compliance with regulatory requirements and support a system-wide approach.
  • Assist with preventative and corrective action planning when medical provider support is needed.
  • Co-chair the Board Quality Committee to support development of the quality plan for the community, actively recruiting medical staff engagement, and prioritizing work with other executives.
  • Collaborate with local and system quality committees to ensure alignment.
  • Engage in patient safety support and initiatives, root cause analysis as appropriate, and assuring credible action plans are resourced and completed.
  • Participate in system patient safety committees to share best practices and ensure follow-up in the local community.
  • Assure clinical quality and practices are aligned with fiscal responsibility.
  • Be accountable as a member of the community executive team for achievement of the community's financial targets related to quality, safety, and clinical practice.
  • Support providers and clinical practices at all levels of the community.
  • Partner with CAO for communication to the Community Health Board and other community partners.
  • Provide oversight of the medical staff office in partnership with the CAO.
  • Support the development of protocols for high-risk and/or high-volume disease processes to eliminate unnecessary variation and foster standardized approaches.
  • Serve as a liaison between senior leadership and the medical staff.
  • Participate in annual strategic and operational planning for the community in conjunction with annual strategic and operational planning for PH system.
  • Lead the design of assigned functional teams and care improvement approaches to further PeaceHealth's mission.
  • Ensure organizational standards and performance outcomes.
  • Provide mentoring, performance reviews, and oversight to appointed/employed service line medical directors.
  • Partner with staff to elected medical staff officers in their strategies and assignments.
  • Function as the Patient Safety Officer for assigned area by communicating regularly with the board and senior leadership team and by leading the integrated patient safety program.
Requirements:
  • Accredited Medical School required.
  • Master's Degree preferred: Business Administration, Healthcare Administration, or secondary college education in a business or health administration field.
  • Minimum of 5 years required: Clinical practice experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years preferred: High-level healthcare leadership experience.
  • Experience leading/partnering in multidisciplinary teams.
  • Up-to-date knowledge of changes in healthcare, emerging clinical methodologies, and standards required.
  • Successful experience with redesign or process work which includes community-wide implementation.
  • Required Upon Hire: Medical Doctor - Oregon.

  • High professional and ethical standards.
  • Strong understanding of principles of patient-centered care, physician compensation systems, medical technology, including electronic medical records, and quality/service improvement strategies.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to form collaborative relationships, both within the organization and in the community.
  • Capable of maintaining strict confidentiality when dealing with sensitive medical-legal and professional subjects.
  • Possesses ability to facilitate resolution of conflicts and grievances, handling highly charged problems and situations in a calm and objective manner.
  • Possesses excellent problem-solving skills.
