Role Summary:
The Mechanical Production Supervisor will oversee and guide a team of employees by effectively communicating organizational objectives, safety protocols, and deadlines. This role is pivotal in motivating team members, evaluating performance, and assisting management with hiring and training, while keeping management informed about team dynamics.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborates with the Manufacturing Manager at the beginning of each shift to set clear expectations for tasks to be accomplished and provides a summary of completed work at the end of each shift.
- Manages team performance effectively, addressing any persistent issues through the company's disciplinary and grievance procedures as necessary.
- Contributes to performance evaluations and takes part in the recruitment process for new team members.
- Plans and organizes project activities for the shift, assigning appropriate tasks to mechanical team members.
- Supervises mechanical team members throughout the shift to ensure adherence to safety policies, quality standards, and productivity goals relevant to the tasks at hand.
- Offers immediate guidance to Mechanical Team Members to resolve any issues that may hinder the completion of assigned work (technical, procedural, material-related, etc.).
- Communicates project needs, material requirements, and any scheduling challenges affecting planned activities to the Manufacturing Manager to optimize manpower resources.
- Encourages open communication among team members to ensure a shared understanding of objectives, methods, and progress towards established goals.
- Engages with Project Managers, Engineers, Designers, and other Team Leads as necessary to exchange information crucial for problem-solving and advancing work.
- Participates in Team Leader/Shop Floor meetings, project discussions, design reviews, or similar gatherings as required to disseminate important information.
- Facilitates employee training initiatives to ensure a thorough understanding of technical requirements and productivity expectations.
- Reviews and approves requests for paid time off from mechanical team members.
- Ensures security and secures the facility at the conclusion of the shift.
- Performs additional tasks as assigned.
- Willingness to travel as needed.
- Reviews and approves weekly time and attendance records for payroll purposes.
- Actively identifies and promotes Continuous Improvement (CI) opportunities.
Qualifications:
- Completion of Leaving Certificate or equivalent qualification.
- Experience in Mechanical Assembly and Welding.
- Prior experience in a manufacturing environment or at customer sites.
- Ability to stand for extended periods and engage in physically demanding tasks.
- Capable of standing, sitting, walking, bending, stooping, reaching, lifting, pushing, pulling, and carrying items. Exposure to high noise levels may occur.
- Must be able to wear personal protective equipment.
- Familiarity with and experience in implementing Continuous Improvement (CI) practices is advantageous.
- Prior experience with Lean/Six Sigma methodologies is a plus.
