Key Responsibilities

The Senior Civil Engineer (Project Engineer II) will play a crucial role in the preparation of construction contract documents, specifications, and cost assessments for various infrastructure projects including roadways, bridges, and maintenance facilities.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Assist in developing traffic management plans for construction initiatives.
  • Review and coordinate construction documents prepared by external engineering and architectural firms.
  • Manage the advertising process for construction bids.
  • Collaborate with consulting engineers and contractors to resolve construction and maintenance challenges.
  • Oversee and inspect ongoing construction projects.
  • Evaluate permit applications for utility installations across Turnpike rights-of-way.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Design and Planning Engineer.
Work Characteristics:
  • Ability to interpret and apply various engineering principles and specifications.
  • Proficient in problem-solving and data analysis to draw accurate engineering conclusions.
  • Skilled in managing interactions with government officials, contractors, and the public.
  • Capable of planning and executing engineering projects with unique challenges.
  • Expertise in drafting precise specifications and contract language for diverse materials and services.
  • Familiarity with relevant codes and regulations in the engineering field.
  • Knowledge of governmental regulations related to highway and environmental issues.
Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • Entry-level position.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.
  • Successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (F.E.) Exam.
  • Ability to obtain professional engineer registration (Civil preferred) in a timely manner.
  • Experience in design, construction, or maintenance practices in Civil Engineering is advantageous.
  • Proficiency in using standard survey instruments and compiling survey data.
  • Competence in computer software including AutoCAD, Micro Station, Outlook, Access, Excel, and Word.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential.
  • Must possess a valid State of Ohio driver's license.

Working Conditions:
The primary work environment is an office setting; however, candidates must be physically capable of performing field activities, which may include climbing, walking, and lifting. Field inspections may occur during varying weather conditions and may require navigating construction sites.
