The Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) division is seeking a distinguished Lead Applied Scientist to spearhead the advancement and execution of pioneering algorithms, enhancing the efficiency of inference for Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) models.
Your Role:
As a Lead Applied Scientist, you will be instrumental in propelling the evolution of GenAI technologies tailored for Amazon-scale applications, significantly enriching our customers' experiences.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and conduct experiments to assess the efficacy of various decoding algorithms and models, iterating swiftly to refine outcomes.
- Develop sophisticated deep learning models aimed at compression, system optimization, and inference.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams of engineers and scientists to tackle intricate challenges in GenAI.
- Mentor and nurture junior scientists and engineers, contributing to the overall growth and development of the team.
Basic Qualifications:
- PhD with a focus on artificial intelligence, natural language processing, machine learning, or computational cognitive science.
- Over 10 years of combined academic and research experience.
- Recognized as a functional thought leader, influential in key technical decisions.
- Proven ability to advocate ideas to executive-level decision-makers.
- Experience in mentoring and training the research scientist community on complex technical matters.
- Proficiency in software development using traditional programming languages (C++, Java, etc.).
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Familiarity with deep learning frameworks.
- Experience with large language models (LLMs) and multimodal architectures.
- Background in generative deep learning models.
- Strong publication record in prestigious journals and conferences.

Compensation:
Our compensation reflects the labor market across various US geographic areas. The base pay for this position ranges from $179,000/year in our lowest geographic market to $309,400/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is influenced by several factors, including market location and may vary based on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.

Amazon offers a comprehensive total compensation package, which may include equity, sign-on bonuses, and other forms of compensation, alongside a full range of medical, financial, and additional benefits.
