The Virginia Museum of Fine Arts is in search of dedicated, adaptable, and enthusiastic individuals for the role of Facilities Maintenance Associate.

This position is a wage, non-exempt role without benefits, with an average schedule of approximately 28 hours per week, and a maximum of 1,450 hours annually.

Facilities Maintenance Associates are responsible for ensuring the cleanliness and upkeep of all public and non-public spaces within the museum by performing the following tasks on a daily basis or as scheduled:

  • Washing windows.
  • Dust mopping floors.
  • Dusting and polishing furniture, pedestals, plexiglass, and various surfaces.
  • Vacuuming carpets and treating stains.
  • Cleaning upholstery and maintaining vinyl and leather items.
  • Sanitizing restrooms, restocking supplies, and replenishing wall dispensers and napkin machines.
  • Buffing or stripping floors as necessary.
  • Organizing and cleaning supply closets and equipment, including buffers and vacuums.
  • Setting up and dismantling furniture (tables and chairs) for various special events.
  • Assisting with the movement of museum property and other special projects as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:
Ability to foster and maintain cooperative relationships with colleagues.
Capability to read and comprehend instructions.
Ability to stand and walk for extended periods, up to 8 hours.
Proficiency in using hands for handling equipment, reaching, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling.
Capacity to lift or move items weighing up to 75 pounds.

Preferred Qualifications:
Previous experience in custodial or housekeeping roles.

Special Requirements:
Selected candidates must successfully complete a criminal history background check.
