POSITION OBJECTIVE:

Enhance and maintain current systems for data reporting and analysis. Gather and relay information regarding product, process, and quality metrics. Propose and execute enhancements to processes that boost quality and efficiency through thorough analysis. Ensure adherence to all quality protocols while collaborating effectively with production teams to fulfill customer expectations alongside production requirements.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Metallurgy, Materials Engineering, or a related field.
  • A minimum of two years of experience in a laboratory or manufacturing setting.
  • Proven ability to identify and address issues related to production and product quality.
  • Strong verbal and written communication capabilities.
  • Interpersonal skills to engage with individuals across all organizational levels.
  • Exceptional analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving abilities.
  • A demonstrated enthusiasm and intellectual curiosity in the steel industry and materials science.
  • Familiarity with statistical process control (SPC) and data analysis techniques.
  • Experience in material selection, product specifications, and failure analysis.
  • Ability to collaborate and influence cross-functional teams without direct authority.
  • Experience in driving continuous improvement initiatives through equipment design and modifications.
  • Proficient in utilizing various computer applications for data queries.
  • Competence in Microsoft Office software suite.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Four or more years of experience in a laboratory or manufacturing environment.
  • Knowledge of metallurgy and steel manufacturing processes, including experience with metallurgical lab equipment.
  • Familiarity with ISO/Quality System Requirements relevant to the business.
  • Experience in facilitating and participating in problem-solving teams.
  • Understanding of statistical process control (SPC) and data analysis methodologies.
  • Proven experience in leading cross-functional teams and influencing outcomes without direct authority.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Comprehend the impact of process modifications on product performance.
  • Gather and disseminate product quality data.
  • Assist in root cause analysis of process-related defects and their effects on final products.
  • Support troubleshooting and resolution of customer complaints through failure analysis and metallographic evaluations.
  • Contribute to process enhancements based on comprehensive analysis of quality data and collaboration with external technical resources.
  • Engage in Six Sigma, Orange Belt, and problem-solving initiatives.
  • Address inquiries from other departments and monitor production for potential issues.
  • Conduct internal and customer tours based on product and process requirements.
  • Assist in evaluating the feasibility of new steel grades and modifications to existing grades.
  • Coordinate laboratory analyses of samples both internally and externally.
  • Help generate reports and recommendations based on analytical results.
  • Collaborate with production staff to resolve production-related challenges.
  • Participate in continuous improvement and problem-solving teams.
  • Maintain databases for product capability analysis, specifications, supplier approvals, and deviations.
  • Conduct annual calibration of laboratory analysis equipment.
  • Adhere to Environmental, Quality, and Safety Management System protocols and requirements.
