Position Overview

The Rehabilitation Therapy Specialist is responsible for delivering and overseeing therapeutic services to clients, encompassing assessment, treatment, program development, and execution, as well as necessary documentation and communication. This role operates under the directives of a physician.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES include but are not limited to:

  1. Delivering therapeutic services to clients and initiating referrals as needed in accordance with departmental protocols.
  2. Conducting regular screenings of clients to assess the need for therapeutic intervention.
  3. Evaluating clients to gather essential data for treatment planning and execution, including specialized assessments as required.
  4. Interpreting and conveying evaluation results to clients, their families, and other team members.
  5. Collaborating with team members to establish individualized schedules for clients.
  6. Creating treatment plans that identify issues, set short and long-term objectives, and outline methods to achieve these goals.
  7. Coordinating treatment plans with clients, their families, and other team members.
  8. Implementing and executing treatment as specified in the treatment plan.
  9. Monitoring clients' responses to interventions and adjusting treatment as necessary to meet goals in accordance with physician directives.
  10. Developing suitable home or community programs to sustain and enhance clients' performance in their environments.
  11. Documenting the outcomes of client assessments, treatments, follow-ups, and service terminations.
  12. Adapting treatment approaches to cater to the unique needs of each client.
  13. Providing recommendations for adaptive devices or equipment and training clients, families, and relevant staff in their use.
  14. Participating in discharge planning activities.
  15. Supervising and guiding Certified Occupational Therapy Assistants (COTAs) in executing treatment plans.
  16. Overseeing students and volunteers.
  17. Reviewing the quality and appropriateness of services delivered and individual therapy programs for effectiveness and efficiency.
  18. Engaging in educational activities for clients, families, and staff.
  19. Collaborating formally and informally with team members to coordinate comprehensive rehabilitation programs for clients.
  20. Adhering to departmental protocols regarding documentation of therapy services.
  21. Attending required in-service and facility meetings.
  22. Providing in-service training to the care team and educational outreach to the community.
  23. Taking responsibility for ongoing professional development and continuing education.
  24. Recording indirect and billable treatment times per departmental procedures and submitting statistics as required.
  25. Delivering treatment in alignment with established standards of practice and departmental productivity benchmarks.
  26. Maintaining a safe and organized work environment, adhering to safety standards.
  27. Complying with all infection control, Universal Precautions, and OSHA regulations applicable to healthcare professionals.
  28. Demonstrating sound judgment consistently in evaluating, planning, implementing, and following up on client therapy programs.
  29. Fostering positive relationships with colleagues, clients, families, and facility personnel.
  30. Maintaining punctuality and adhering to scheduled shifts while ensuring acceptable patient ratios and work efficiency.
  31. Assisting with and participating in quality assurance initiatives as necessary.
  32. Upholding confidentiality standards as defined in relevant policies and procedures.
  33. Projecting a professional image at all times.
  34. Performing additional duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  1. Bachelor's degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited institution.
  2. Successful completion of the National Certification Examination for Occupational Therapists.
  3. Current state licensure or eligibility for licensure.
  4. Consistent attendance.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT

This position requires physical capabilities classified as medium by the Department of Labor. The employee must be able to exert 20-50 pounds of force occasionally, 10-20 pounds of force frequently, and up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects, equipment, and/or clients. Duties involve standing, walking, sitting, stooping, kneeling, bending, and crouching; using hands to manipulate tools and equipment; reaching with hands and arms; balancing; lifting; and performing medium to maximum transfer assists with clients. The employee must possess sufficient visual and auditory acuity to ensure client safety and assess abilities. This role is classified as Category 1 under OSHA regulations concerning exposure to bloodborne pathogens, necessitating the use of protective equipment for all tasks involving potential exposure.
